I usually get up at 7:00 a.m., shower, dress and go to
the Dining Hall at 7:30 with my roommate. |
 |

By 8:00 I am in homeroom with my advisor, Mr. Ritter.I
have Mr. Fanning for World History; it's my favorite class
because of the teacher and the kids in the class. Mr.
Fanning is an awesome teacher. He presents material in
lots of different ways and that keeps us interested, like
when we discussed current events during war with Iraq.
There are always lots of different opinions because the
class has so many different kinds of people. |
 |

Second period I have Introduction to Art with Ms. Uzmack.
She's great. She has three kids; her daughter is a senior,
so she can relate to us because of her experience with
kids our age. I'm not good at art, but I love the class.
She makes it easy to learn, and I did a painting that
I never thought I'd be able to do. |

Hanging out in the Student Center. |

At break I go to the Student Center and hang out with
friends. During my study hall period, I usually do schoolwork
in my room and occasionally get some laundry done. |
 |

I have Ms. Albert for fourth-period English. She's a young
teacher who encourages us to express ourselves. This term
we've read The Catcher in the Rye and Black Boy. We have
a mix of kids, so we get different perspectives, and I
learned a lot about what other people think. It's never
uncomfortable, because we all trust and respect each other
and can be open and say what we think. |
 |

Before I go to lunch, I take my books back to my room
and then go to the Dining Hall. My favorite meal is tacos
or pasta with red sauce. |
 |

I have Spanish with Ms. Bailey during sixth period. I'm
taking it because I think it will be useful to me to know
that language. It is my first year of taking the language. |
 |

I have Mr. Fitzpatrick for geometry, and this is another
favorite class of mine because I like him, and I like
math. I liked algebra better but am working hard and doing
well in geometry. |
 |

During eighth period I have Mr. Moore for biology. He's
my hall parent, so we're close and we can talk to each
other pretty much like I would to a parent. He's really
funny, so his class is fun and interesting. |
 |

If I need extra help, I see whatever teacher I need to
see and then I go to sports practice. I play three sports:
football, basketball, and baseball. I've played baseball
forever and love it, but now football is my favorite even
though it's only my first year. Chief's so cool; he's
a very good coach, the best I've ever had playing sports.
You can talk to him about anything. He always says that
you won't get anywhere unless you have good grades to
get you there. |

Studying together at night. |

When I became a boarder here, I wasn't sure I'd like it.
But because we have study hall, I don't put off doing
homework, and my grades have been really good. I go down
to the Student Center at break and spend time with friends
and then get to bed at a decent hour. Next year, when
I'm a proctor, I'll help the boarders see the advantage
of what they have here at Pennington. |
