The Order of the Tower recognizes alumni, teachers, or friends for outstanding service to The Pennington School or to the wider community. The 2013 recipients, John Biddiscombe '63 and Georgia Manukas '85, will be presented the award at a ceremony on Alumni Day, May 18. John Biddiscombe ’63 is the former director of athletics and chair of the Physical Education Department at Wesleyan University, where he provided oversight for twenty-nine varsity sports, a comprehensive physical education curriculum, intramurals, and campus recreation. An active member in NCAA governance, Mr. Biddiscombe has served as chair of the Division III Management Council and as a member of the NCAA Executive Committee. An active volunteer in his Connecticut community and a loyal and engaged Pennington alumnus, he is a 1967 graduate of Springfield College, where he lettered in football. He received his master’s degree from Slippery Rock State College. He was Pennington’s athletic director, head football coach, and wrestling coach for three years, 1968 to 1971.

Georgia Manukas ’85 has produced, directed, shot, and recorded sound for programs for National Geographic, PBS, The Learning Channel, History Channel, The Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, and A&E. She is currently producing two episodes of North Woods Law for Animal Planet. She post-produced Border Wars and Kenny and Zoltan’s Venom Quest for National Geographic Television and shot the most recent season of A&E’s Parking Wars. Ms. Manukas was nominated in 2011 for a Primetime Emmy Award for a television documentary she produced about the film Jaws. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Southern Methodist University.

Nominations for the Order of the Tower are taken from the School community and presented to the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association. After careful review, the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association makes the recommendation for this award to the School’s Board of Trustees.
