Stingrays Swimming

The Pennington Stingrays team is a USS / year-round team designed to provide a fun experience for the competitive swimmer at The Pennington School. The goal of the club is to promote a healthy athletic lifestyle and to introduce kids to their potential abilities through discipline, hard work, and a positive attitude. The Pennington Stingrays swimming program is for the competitive swimmer and is open to ages 5 to 18.

Practices are designed to be fun, informative, and challenging for all participants. The Pennington Stingrays swim team competes in dual swim meets and open meets throughout Mercer County. There have been a lot of changes to the Stingrays club since its inception. We are now a Certified USA Swimming Team (USS). Swimmers who participate with this team will need to be registered USA swimming members. (Stingrays can provide information on how to register; it is an easy process.) At Pennington Stingrays, we offer ALL levels of swimming in levels 1, 2, or 3 and attend local and national competitions. Most of our athletes become the best athletes in the local area, and several of our highly trained athletes have achieved national rankings. Our club mission is on track to include national to international recognitions for the club, Stingray athletes, and the coaches.

The team is managed and coached by Andy Sichet, director of Stingrays, and George Ward of Pennington Stingrays. Coach Ward is also the aquatics director and head varsity swimming coach at The Pennington School. Andy Sichet was a nationally ranked water polo player and swimmer prior to starting Stingrays. Coach Sichet also coaches the Community Park Bluefish in the summer through the Community Park pool in Princeton. Coach Sichet has been a club team coach since 2003 for Stingrays and has coached hundreds of swimmers and water polo players of all ages in the Princeton area over the last 10 years.

George Ward has been coaching the varsity high school swimming team at The Pennington School for 17 years, has won 16 NJISAA State Championships for Pennington swimming, and has sent numerous swimmers from Pennington to some of the top Div. I and Div. III college swimming programs. He has helped lead Pennington swimmers to higher levels, including coaching every swimmer on the Pennington School record board and assisting many of his swimmers to achieve All-Prep, All-State, Academic All-American, and athletic All-American consideration. Coach Ward is a member of NISCA and ASCA and is WSI certified. Coach Ward, a former captain and record holder at The Pennington School, returned to Pennington in 1994 and helped coach the boys’ team to their first State Championship in 1996. His girls’ varsity team at Pennington has won 11 straight NJISAA State Championships. In addition, Coach Ward has worked at the Princeton University swimming camp with the University’s head women’s coach. The Princeton camp is for swimmers ages 8–18.
