The Pennington School boasts one of the longest running football programs in the country, and celebrated 125 years of football at the School in 2004. The program will celebrate its 130th anniversary in the Fall of 2009. Head football coach Jerry Eure '75 leads the Red Raider program. A star defensive back at Wyoming University in college, Eure's love for the game of football and for working with young people is infectious. The football program has many long-standing traditions including the week-long Fall pre-season camp in August; Heritage Field, which has been home to the program for decades; and a Spring banquet to honor the seniors and highlight the season. The School is a member of the Delaware Valley Chapter of the National Football Federation Hall of Fame and has had numerous players up for the Scholar Athlete Award -- in 1993 quarterback Rick Durst won this prestigious award. The history of the program includes legendary coaches Harold Poore and Bill Long, both of whose teams won many games and championships during their time at the helm. Today's football program blends experienced players with newcomers to the game of football and has produced several college-level players at both the Division I and Division III levels.
