The Meckler Library, located at the heart of The Pennington School campus, is open to students and staff from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM and from 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM Monday through Thursday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, and from 7:30 to 10:00 on Sunday evening. Students are encouraged to use the library for relaxation, study, research, and quiet reading. Library faculty are on duty to assist students when classes are in session and after school. There are 20 computers for student use in the library's reading room.

The Meckler collection contains over 16,000 volumes and is maintained through an aggressive plan of acquisitions designed to meet the academic and recreational needs of TPS students. The library's print collection also includes current periodicals; newspapers, including several in the languages of our international students; and The New York Times on microfilm. The student loan period for circulating materials is 4 weeks and renewals are available as needed.

MEL, the Meckler Electronic Library, provides 24/7 access to a variety of subscription research databases that expands the amount of authoritative, academic information available to meet our students' research needs exponentially. These resources provide materials that support the entire TPS curriculum and include electronic access to full text reference materials, primary resources, images, periodicals and newspapers. Computers throughout the campus can gain access to MEL via the high-speed network, including the library catalog Athena, and MEL is available off-campus through the Citrix network.


Fiber-optic cable links the library to each academic building
on campus and them to each other. A networked campus with
high-speed access to the Internet allows faculty and students
to access and share information. Everyone has an email account
and a directory on a file server.

All classrooms have computers and there are six mini-labs
in academic buildings for shared use. In Meckler Library there
are 65 workstations, most of which are found in two computer
labs and an electronic classroom. These areas are designed
for both courses and short-term projects. A student to computer
ratio of 3:1, an on-going program of staff development that
leads to a technology-integrated curriculum, and an instructional
technology curriculum of required competencies and enriching
electives work together to prepare students for the challenges
of their future endeavors.
