Welcome to Pennington Postings!
Posted September 15, 2011
Welcome to the first issue of Pennington Postings for the 2011-12 year!
As director of communications I oversee--and in many cases help to create--the School's print and online publications and try to make sure that we communicate effectively and efficiently with parents, among others. We do our best to avoid sending you an excessive number of emails, instead encouraging you to use the School website www.pennington.org as your primary source of up-to-date information.
Twenty-first-century communication is altering so rapidly that even this year may bring changes in the ways you may acquire information about the School. Let me briefly outline where things stand now, however.
The School website is the most comprehensive source of information for parents. Important news and most important announcements will appear in the homepage news section; those less urgent but still of interest to parents will appear on the Parents page under "News." The athletic team pages have the team schedules, which are updated frequently.
Most other web pages on our site are oriented to being general resources for current and prospective students and their families, as well as for the public. When there is something new added, such as a list of quarter electives or a schedule for a special event, we usually alert you with an announcement in the Parents news section. We are working to make the entire website increasingly user-friendly and informative. As we are coming to rely more exclusively on the website to inform you, I'd suggest bookmarking both the homepage and the Parents homepage http://www.pennington.org/parents/index.aspx.
Please remember, however, that websites are by definition, dynamic; details of an event you read about two weeks ago might be different today. We try to post last-minute changes in time or location of events on the homepage and tweet them on our Twitter news or sports feeds, as appropriate. (You may opt to follow us on Twitter through links on the homepage.)
Pennington Postings comes to you via email most Friday mornings. It is simultaneously posted on the website on the Pennington Postings page, where you can also search for previous issues. The log-in for the Pennington Postings page (and also for the TPSPA Leadership page) is generic:
user name: pennington
password: redraiders
The Postings includes items of particular interest to parents from the homepage and from Parents News, as well as some information not previously on the website (e.g., greater detail about upcoming events, news from the Parents Association, etc.).
It is easy to become overwhelmed by the amount of information available to all of us today, not to mention by the myriad ways in which we receive it. Pennington parents are valued members of the School community, and we try to keep you appropriately informed while being considerate of your time.
