Posted September 14, 2012
The Pennington School formally opened its academic year with Convocation on Sunday, Sept. 9. The 484 students currently enrolled comprise day students from the area and boarding students from both the United States and countries around the world ranging from China to Uzbekistan.
Head of School Stephanie G. Townsend addressed the assembled students and parents, as did Peter Tucci '79, chair of the Board of Trustees. Hope MacKenzie '13 and Shaan Patel '18 brought greetings on behalf of the Upper and Middle school, respectively. The featured speaker was Andrew Schwarz, a member of the School's Class of 1965, who spoke to the students about the transformative effect Pennington had on his own educational career.
Schwarz, who began working on the floor of the American Stock Exchange while still at Pennington, earned his bachelor's degree in economics at Marietta College. He worked for several Wall Street firms before founding AGS Specialist Partners in 1991. He became a member of the American Stock Exchange and was twice elected to its board. In 2008 he was named American Stock Exchange Man of the Year. He gives guest lectures about markets and exchanges at universities all over the country and at brokerage firms in the United States and Europe.
