Axe Owens '12 was recently awarded a $5,000 scholarship by National Junior Tennis and Learning of Trenton (NJTLT). Owens, now a freshman at Chestnut Hill College, at age five began tennis lessons in the organization's Cadwalader Park lesson program. A successful competitive player, she went on to play first singles at Pennington for four years and now is a member of her college team.
The NJTLT Charles Evans Scholarship was formally awarded to Owens at the Capital Cup, a one-day round-robin tennis event held at the Trenton Country Club and benefiting NJTLT. According to its website, the nonprofit community organization is "dedicated to improving the lives of youths from broad socio-economic and cultural backgrounds with programs based on the ideals of tennis legend Arthur Ashe."
