<p>Four Pennington School students have discovered two previously unknown viruses. Working as a team every day in the laboratory, the students took more than four months to isolate and purify the viruses from local soil samples. The four are students in an innovative honors research course, Advanced Research in Molecular Biology, launched at the School in 2011 by biology teacher Dr. David Hauser.</p>

<p>Pennington School senior Matthew Bloom was invited to speak at the Child Study Center at New York University in December. Bloom serves as a "Think Different Diplomat" with Eye to Eye, the national mentoring program that pairs children with learning disabilities with high school and college mentors who have similar diagnoses. He spoke to undergraduates pursuing a degree in special education.</p>

The original experiment, conducted in 1972 by psychologist Walter Mischel of Stanford University, was a study on deferred gratification. For the Pennington students, it was a project that showed them how percent calculations can be used to compare data across different variables.</p>

	Pennington rising senior and professional disc jockey (DJ) Dane Kunkel is spending his time this summer producing an electronic dance music (EDM) concert for thousands of teens and young adults. He hopes to raise $100,000 from ticket sales for Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). Slated for September 29, 2012, at the Sun National Bank Center in Trenton, NJ, the concert will kick off October’s National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.</p>

	Saturday's Mary Kline Classic, established by Alex Kline '12 and co-sponsored by the School, brought a capacity crowd to Sparks Gymnasium. An estimated 1,000 people attended, and representatives of at least 50 media outlets, including the <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/06/sports/ncaabasketball/nj-high-school-student-is-also-a-keen-student-of-college-basketball-recruiting.html?_r=1">New York Times </a>, the <a href="http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/high_school/basketball/city_players_help_fight_against_C4rgWVH2QJvmDgb5rhO5BN">New York Post </a>, and <a href="http://www.slamonline.com/online/college-hs/high-school/2012/05/not-just-another-charity-event/">Slam Online </a>covered the story. The event raised $20,000 for brain cancer research.</p>

	On Thursday, Sept. 22, parents were sent an activation email from Rjenda.com. Rjenda is an online service the School now uses for managing homework assignments, tests, and quizzes. Using Rjenda, teachers can help manage student workload, students can easily track their homework assignments, and parents can monitor their child’s schedule.</p>

<p>The School’s Run for the Cure on Oct. 17 drew a record 116 participants and raised $4,500 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the foundation for breast cancer research. <p>The Pennington School's fourteenth annual Flying Pig 5K run drew 124 runners and walkers ages 12 to 75 on the hot evening of August 11. Proceeds from the event, held off-road in Rosedale Park, benefit Athletes Helping Athletes and the School's cross country and track programs. The top three finishers--all Hamilton Township residents and students or alumni of Notre Dame High School in Lawrence Township--were Jonathan Sewnig, Shaun Foley, and Tyler Jeavons. The fastest female in the race was also one of the youngest: Hannah Molloy, age 14, of Levittown, PA.
