Graduation Requirements

Academic Credit Requirements

One (1) credit represents a full year of successful study in one subject. In order to graduate from The Pennington School, a student must accumulate a minimum of 20 credits. Required credits are listed below.

In every academic term at The Pennington School, students are assigned a lunch period and are permitted to take one study hall period. Student in grades 9 through 11 must schedule at least six credits of coursework, and are not permitted to have more than 1 study hall. With permission of the Dean of Academic Affairs, students in grade 12 may request an additional study hall provided that all graduation and college entrance requirements are satisfied. Grade 12 students must schedule a minimum of five credits of coursework.

The remaining credits required for graduation may be earned by choosing a combination of additional courses, including electives.

Athletic/Activity Credit Requirements

In addition to academic credit requirements, students must participate in athletics and after-school activities. Please see the Student/Parent Handbook on Veracross for more specific information about credit for these activities.
