"Whate’er Thou Art, Act Well Thy Part”
The Pennington School offers a variety of theatre courses and activities that capitalize on individual excellence within a collaborative art form. Students can explore a variety of acting techniques of the past and present, use masks and European clowning to find unique characters, employ technical theatre skills to collaborate on a common vision, and write, direct, or perform scripted or original material. We seek to find and develop the inner star potential of each Theatre at Pennington student and combine those gifts into meaningful collaborative experiences.
Performance opportunities outside the Theatre classroom abound. The Dramatic Society, a student-run club, organizes open mic nights and trips to local and Broadway productions. The fall play provides students with a chance to delve individually into a character and to be a part of a close-knit ensemble group. Participants in the winter musical are parts of a very vibrant whole as cast, crew, and pit band members' efforts culminate in the production of an entertaining and professional show. There is something for all generations of theater students in the spring season! Great actors and technicians begin their careers in the Middle School show, and culminate their theater experience in the original work of the spring play, or in the Horizon Program's Shakesperience. Non-performers can test out their skills on tech or costume crew in any or all seasons.
