Pride and Prejudice: André Terrel Jackson ’09

October 9 – November 30

Pride and Prejudice presents viewers with explorations of identity often relegated to the margins of society. Queer people of color represent a marginalized group with a marginalized group, and their voices and unique experiences are often neglected.

Pride and Prejudice offers insight into the intersection of race, gender, and sexual orientation by presenting visual representations of personal and interpersonal experiences.

Through a combination of photography, mixed media sculpture, and textile art, André Terrel Jackson ’09 attempts to dispel the notion that blackness and queerness are always at odds. Through color, material, imagery, and text, the artist investigates and subverts expectations of black/queer identity, masculinity, femininity, and American culture.
