James Evangelista

The Language of Landscape

October 16, 2026 - December 18, 2026
Reception with the artist on Friday, December 4 at 6:00-7:30 PM

James Evangelista is an American fine art photographer and poet whose dual discipline practice centers on the patient, highly disciplined study of light, weather, and terrain. His visual work is widely recognized for its restrained composition, nuanced tonal architecture, and the quiet, intentional tension he captures between deep shadow and sudden illumination.

Rather than chasing fleeting spectacle, Evangelista focuses on atmosphere, permanence, and presence. His landscapes and architectural studies are structural and meditative, resulting in compositions that deliberately reward sustained viewing and deepen over time. His parallel mastery of poetry heavily informs his lens: both mediums are deeply grounded in stillness, geometric restraint, and a profound, solitary attention to place.

Evangelista’s photographs are held in numerous private collections and have been extensively exhibited in regional galleries, juried fine art venues, and museums. Working across contemporary archival inkjet printing and traditional silver-toned chromogenic C-prints, he creates a cohesive, evocative body of work that blurs the boundaries between image and language while maintaining a sharp, sophisticated, and contemporary aesthetic.
