Congratulations to Bryce Meccage '24!
Bryce has been selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the second round with the 57th overall pick in the MLB Draft! After an incredible four-year career at Pennington that saw him break the School record for strikeouts with 158, while posting an astounding 1.06 ERA over 79.2 innings pitched, we're excited to watch Bryce's journey to the Majors. Bryce is one of few players in Pennington's history that has been drafted to the MLB, and he is the first to be drafted directly out of high school.
Bryce was the 51st-ranked prospect by MLB.com for the MLB draft. His fastball can reach 97mph and he complements that with a hard slider around 87-88mph and a nasty curve ball around 79-80mph. He was ranked in the Top 10 for high school pitchers in this year's draft by MLB Pipeline. Meccage threw 22 innings without giving up a single hit this past spring. A full-season no-hitter is something unheard of in the game of baseball! In 2023, Meccage led the Pennington baseball team to its second NJISAA Prep "B" State Championship in the last eight years with a stellar performance on the mound in the final, going 7 shutout innings, allowing 3 hits and striking out 15 batters.
When asking Bryce about his experience getting drafted and what is to come next he said, “This feels like a new journey is about to begin, and a fresh start to continue to dominate on the mound!”
Bryce had previously been committed to the University of Virginia. We wish Bryce all the best as he continues his baseball career!
