James Horan composes original civil rights anthem

James Horan, teacher of music, composed an anthem honoring the memory of John Lewis, the civil rights leader and congressman. "Your Turn to Let Freedom Ring (The Ballad of John Lewis)," performed by the Pennington Singers, was played during the Chapel celebration of Black History Month on Wednesday, February 17.

Inspired by the life and legacy of John Lewis, Horan composed the original anthem over the summer. The students in the Pennington Singers group each learned their parts of the song during virtual rehearsals, and recorded their solo, choral, and harmony parts separately. Horan then mixed the vocal and instrumental pieces together.
