On Friday, April 5 and Saturday, April 6, Pennington students hosted their second annual three-hour Mini-Mini-THON for Middle School students and their third annual seven-hour Mini-THON for the Upper School. Both events were sponsored and run by the senior members of student government, led by Mini-THON Chair Sydney Gibbard. For the Mini-Mini-THON, many of the events were planned by the Middle School student leadership team and were assisted by the Junior Proctors.
Mini-THON is an event that raises awareness and funds to fight pediatric cancer. All proceeds go to 4-Diamonds, which works in conjunction with Penn State Children's Hospital to research the disease and offset treatment costs for families. This year's event raised $26,088 by the end of the event on Saturday, April 6 and fundraising will continue online until June 1 at https://fourdiamonds.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.event&eventID=2352.
During each event, all students remained standing throughout the entire evening. The students’ philosophy was, “We stand for the kids who can't.” Each hour was kicked off with a line dance which was followed by one of many activities, including dodge ball, bubble soccer, Name That Tune, and Captain's Coming. There was also dancing and plenty of food and drinks.
The top fundraisers for each event were recognized, and the top three fundraisers got to smash a pie in the face of Mr. Paige (Middle School) or Mr. Twitchell (Upper School). Lots of fun was had by all! Pennington Pride was evident throughout the evening.
