On Wednesday, February 7, The Pennington School honored seniors who have already made athletic commitments to colleges or universities for next year. Seniors Shannon Boyce and Olivia Mahony signed NCAA National Letters of Intent to play soccer at Lehigh University and American University, respectively.
Boyce will study at Lehigh University and play on its women's soccer team. A soccer captain this year at Pennington, she was also selected as a Peer Leader at the School and is involved with the women in STEM program. A strong presence at midfield for the past four seasons, Boyce has helped lead the team both on and off of the field.
Mahony will continue her scholastic/athletic career next year at American University. The backbone of Pennington's defense for the past four seasons, despite missing play during her junior year because of a hip injury, Mahony came back stronger than ever this year to lead the team from her center-back position. Known as a smart and tough defender, she is calm under pressure according to her coaches. She has been named captain of both soccer and lacrosse teams this year.
Several other seniors were honored at the ceremony: Luke Blair for baseball, Carly Rice for basketball, Kathleen Horsley for field hockey, Steven Kopits and Corey Pelzer for football, Madelyn Seibel for lacrosse, Jared Panson, and Marco DiNatale for soccer, Max Pinado for lacrosse, and Francesca Pellerito and Megan Porras for soccer.
