AP Gov students visit Supreme Court

Students from Pennington's AP U.S. Government classes got a firsthand look at the state legal system when they visited the Supreme Court of New Jersey in Trenton on Monday, April 9.

Students watched arguments in the case of Dunbar Homes v. Township of Franklin, which involved the legal standards for the application process for new housing developments. The Court's seven justices asked challenging questions of the attorneys from both sides of the case and the students were happily surprised when one justice cited one of the most fundamental U.S. legal cases, Marbury v. Madison.

After argument ended, Chief Justice Stuart Rabner answered the students' questions in a lively exchange that touched on the federal and state relationship and other topics discussed regularly in class.
