Global Studies Speaker Rich Brown delivers presentation

The School's third Global Studies Speaker, Rich Brown, delivered a presentation on Friday, January 26, about migration in Guatemala and how migrants regularly risk their lives, and sometimes lose them, to reach the U.S. from Central America.

Brown drew on three years of work with community groups in Guatemala to explore the motivations that compel people to make the decision to migrate, as well as the social, economic, and historical factors that have led to the recent waves of migration. Born in South Africa to a journalist and a diplomat, Brown currently lives in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, where he edits the website of EntreMundos Magazine, a bilingual human rights and development publication. The publication gathers stories and articles from grassroots groups, academic experts, and public figures to cover issues like climate change, food security, and labor relations.
