Summer Public Speaking provides students the opportunity to earn .25 required graduation credit hours in one week! Through active participation, students will learn the essential skills necessary for oral presentations, including:

- Public Speaking
- Researching
- Composing
- Vocal variety
- Confidence
- Perseverance

Using student-driven content, four types of presentations will be covered: demonstrative, informative, persuasive, and impromptu. We will work in a variety of speaking atmospheres—classroom, lecture hall, and large assembly room—both with and without microphones. Students will deliver four major presentations, demonstrating proficiency in oral communication as measured on the Competent Speaker Speech Performance Evaluation. There will be breaks throughout the day (in addition to a one-hour break for lunch) and students will have opportunities to be outdoors.

The class is graded. Grades will be given according to Pennington's system, with an annotated teacher review of student performance. Students earning credit will be expected to submit work online by a specific date. All work must be completed by that date to receive academic credit for the course.
