Pennington Student Wins Awards for AI Health Innovation

Spring was an especially busy time for Heyi “Henry” F. ’27, as the Pennington junior collected multiple awards in scientific research and biomedical innovation at both the regional and international levels. 

Henry’s project, EquiliMind, is an AI-driven wearable system designed to detect early instability in patients suffering from Ménière’s disease. This innovative technology aims to predict balance issues before they happen, helping to prevent dangerous falls and improve patient safety.

Henry's journey began in March at the 2026 Mercer Science and Engineering Fair (MSEF), hosted at the Frick Chemistry Laboratory on the campus of Princeton University. Competing against other young scientists and engineers from across Mercer County, Henry’s research swept the event's highest honors; he was awarded Overall Grand Champion, as well as 1st Place in the Translational Medical Science category. Additionally, Henry received the Yale Science and Engineering Association Award for Most Outstanding Exhibit in STEM.

By securing the regional Grand Championship, Henry earned the right to advance to the world's premier pre-college science competition: the 76th Annual Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Phoenix, Arizona.

Competing alongside more than 1,700 elite student innovators representing roughly 60 countries, regions, and territories, Henry once again captured the attention of leaders and experts in the field of STEM. At the Grand Awards ceremony on May 15, Henry was honored with the 4th Place Grand Prize Award within the Translational Medical Science category, as well as the Society for Science Alumni special award

Organized by the Society for Science, Regeneron ISEF awarded more than $7 million in total prizes this year to the world's brightest young minds. Congratulations to Henry for being for a pioneer in the field of health technology and for representing the Pennington community with such distinction.
