Spring Concert Showcases Broad Range of Pennington’s Music Program

Sparks Gymnasium transformed into a vibrant soundscape last Thursday night, as Music at Pennington held their annual Spring Concert. Under the instrumental direction of Dr. Donald Dolan and choral direction of James Horan, the program bridged the gap between jazz and classical mastery and pop-culture fun.

The evening was a showcase for Pennington’s many different musical groups, including The Pennington Singers and The Treble Tones choirs, as well as The Pennington School Orchestra, The Pennington School Jazz Band, and SoundProof. Several instrumentalists and vocalists were featured in solos, including a group of soon-to-be-graduating seniors.

The program was an eclectic celebration of the School’s musical range; in addition to some jazz and classical standards, audience members enjoyed Broadway tunes from Merrily We Roll Along and Godspell, cinematic favorites such as the swashbuckling theme from Pirates of the Caribbean, playful video game samplings from Monster Hunter and Donkey Kong, and even an infectious pop/rock sing-a-long featuring music from the 60s, 70s, and 80s.
