Augustine '25 reaches the 1,000 point milestone

Pennington standout girls’ basketball player Izzy Augustine '25 came into the game versus Lawrenceville School needing 12 points to hit the 1,000 point milestone and join her School's fellow 1,000 point scorers.

Augustine, a senior guard who will study and play D-III basketball at The College of New Jersey, demonstrated her scoring prowess by hitting from inside, outside, and from the free throw line as she scored 23 points to help lead Pennington past Lawrenceville.

The final score was 52-42. Augustine's point totals during her Pennington career include 223 as a freshman, 306 as a sophomore, and 398 as a junior.  She now has 84 points as a senior and 1,011 in her career to date.

In her 70 games prior to this season, Augustine has also contributed 110 assists, 166 steals, and 144 rebounds to her teams' efforts.

A torrid three point shooter, she scored 41 as a freshman, 50 as a sophomore, and 65 as a junior. As a freshman starter, Augustine helped Pennington win the NJISAA Prep B State Champions by defeating Newark Academy.

Augustine, a team captain this season, also helped her team gain a spot in the NJISAA Prep B championship game in both her junior and senior seasons.  Augustine's sophomore season saw her go for four 20-plus point games, and eight 20-plus point games in her junior year.

The Red Hawks displayed a scrappy style of play versus a determined Lawrenceville team who cut Pennington’s lead to four points in the fourth quarter.  Freshman forward Dayonna Doggett chipped in with nine points and 13 rebounds.  Doggett also assisted Augustine’s basket to hit the 1,000 point milestone.

Caiden O’Connell ‘26 was a key contributor as she handled the ball well and chipped in four points. Sara Surtz ‘27 hit an important three-pointer in the third quarter.

Anna Hokkanen ‘25 grabbed several important rebounds and hit seven points. Eden Ashiavor ‘28 battled in the paint throughout the game.  Maia Davis ‘27 and Maura Halpin ‘27 played tenacious defense. Tara Raman ‘28, and Lily Cardoso ‘27 also played well in a solid MAPL league game victory.

Next up for the Red Hawks is a game on Wednesday, December 11 at Academy of the New Church.  Tip off is set for 4:15.
