ACSL Computer Science Team Wins Top Prize... Again!

Pennington’s Computer Science Competition Club closed out the month of April by snagging the top spot on the podium for the fourth year in a row at the American Computer Science League (ACSL) competition.

This year, the club had two Senior Level teams competing in the yearlong international contest. According to Teacher of Computer Science and Engineering Len Leib, who also serves as club advisor, students compete by “writing very difficult coding solutions and answering advanced college level computer science questions.”

Monte H. ’26, a senior on the team, credits the competition with “giving me an incredibly in-depth understanding of computer functions, language, efficiency and how they all work together. Additionally,” he quipped, “they make me very glad I am not a computer science major.” Teammate Chi Fui (William) N. ’27 appreciates “how the ACSL team always works together ” He also had some special praise for Mr. Leib: “He is not only a mentor,” shares William, “but also someone you can always reach out to when you want to discuss any thoughts or questions you might have.”

Last month was the fourth and final portion of the event, and among this year’s group, Rishabh R. ’26, Yongjia (Kelly) L. ’27, and newcomer Miaoyan P. ’28 all earned perfect scores, with several other team members posting scores that were near perfect. “Vibe-coding may be cool and accessible right now,” said Leib, “but these young men and women have the deep understanding and creativity that sets them apart, even in an AI world. We all should feel some Pennington pride about how our School can perform on the worldwide digital stage.”
