Over the past few months, members of Pennington’s Muslim Student Alliance (MSA) have forged a special connection with their peers at the Noor-Ul-Iman School (NUI), a private Islamic school in Monmouth Junction, NJ.
In early October, five MSA members traveled with their advisor to NUI for an afternoon of fun icebreakers, a delicious meal, and a tour of the school. The visit culminated with Friday prayer and a promise for a similar visit of NUI students to Pennington.
Shortly before winter break, Pennington hosted a group of NUI students, enjoying morning reflection, a campus tour, and a special lunch in the Old Main conference room together. MSA co-leader Kae K. ’25 believes that this kind of collaboration is the best way to learn about different perspectives and experiences. “Relationships with other schools such as the one we are creating with the Noor-UI-Iman School are extremely important for fostering open and inclusive communities,” said Kae.
That was a sentiment echoed by Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Jacqueline Rivera. “This visit was a wonderful opportunity to build community, strengthen bonds, and celebrate the value of getting to know our neighbors,” Rivera stated. “Students are excited to look ahead to upcoming Ramadan celebrations and continue to foster this special partnership between the two schools.”
