Celebrating Tradition and Community at the Annual Boarder Bash

As the school year winds down, campus is still buzzing with the various Pennington traditions that mark the close of another academic calendar. One event in particular, the annual Boarder Bash, is particularly beloved by members of the Residential Life community. This year, students and faculty enjoyed picture perfect weather for their outdoor event, which spans Heritage Field and the volleyball court.

At Boarder Bash, even dinner is al fresco, and this year featured a food truck from Farmstead Foods. Students also enjoyed outdoor art projects with slime continuing to be the most popular craft item. There were also endless volleyball games, frisbee and football tosses, music, a slip 'n slide and water balloon fight, and the annual Hoagie Haven late night snack run for seniors. S’mores and stories around the campfire rounded out the night.

This was the second Boarder Bash for Sophomore Tim W., who appreciates the simplicity of eating a burger and playing volleyball with his friends, crediting the fun-filled night with helping students “relax before exams begin.” And, of course, the evening provides a final “fun residential memory of the year,” which Tim and others can carry with them through their summer break.

The year-end event is a true highlight for the Res Life community, according to Assistant Director of Residential Life Peter Secrest ’13. “We come together one last time to enjoy each other's company and celebrate another great year on campus,” explained Secrest. “My favorite part is always sitting around the campfire with my duty crew and students as we swap stories of the year.”
