Group Photo In Front Of Volcano

Students across all grades at Pennington were offered the opportunity to participate in a week-long travel experience in beautiful Costa Rica over spring break!

The week in Costa Rica brought incredible experiences for Pennington’s Middle School travelers with trip chaperones Tracy Kuser and Isabel Berko. Time in San José included a homestay with students from Saint Francis College, attending classes, and adventures in La Fortuna and Monteverde. The group hiked near Arenal Volcano, visited a cacao farm to learn how chocolate is made, and explored the Monteverde cloud forest on a night hike. They also ziplined through the cloud forest canopy and explored via the famous hanging bridges, and spotted a variety of wildlife along the way, including monkeys, birds and even a tarantula. From there, they traveled to Guanacaste to experience life on the coast, with sunny weather, horseback riding on the beach, and a traditional Costa Rican dance.

Upper School students journeyed to Costa Rica with chaperones Margo Andrews, Tyesha Elmore, and Carlos Jeremie. They kayaked through the canals of Tortuguero National Park, stood in treetops surrounded by squawking great green macaws, hiked to remote waterfalls, and observed an abundance of wildlife, including several species of sloths and monkeys. They also ate delicious Costa Rican foods, visited the University for Peace, and explored vibrant Caribbean towns while learning about Costa Rica’s culture, environment, and history.

Both trips included unforgettable adventures and scenery, and inspired students to consider Costa Rica's rich culture and spectacular environment.
