From Classroom to Crêperie: Middle School Students of French Enjoy Delicious Outing

Last week, a small group of French I students from the Middle School traveled to L’Annexe de Mamie Colette, an artisan bakery in Titusville, NJ specializing in French breads, viennoiseries, pastries, and Breton crepes. The excursion was an end-of-unit celebration of the group's “La Cuisine” unit.

According to Teacher of French Maria Capelle-Burny, students prepared by learning the types of foods that are eaten during different meals of the day. In keeping with the food theme, students also participated in a competition to design food truck menus from the Francophone world.

With so much practice under their belts, the sixth and seventh graders were ready to put their language skills to the test. At the bakery, each student took their turn ordering sweet or savory crêpes directly from one of the shop owners, Isabelle, who just so happens to be from Bretagne, a region in northwestern France that is the birthplace of the crêpe!
