Student Presenting Project

On Thursday, January 22, eighth-graders participated in an impressive science fair. Held in the small gym, the fair showcased the research each student had done to test a scientific hypothesis with several variables. Students had a choice of experiments, which ranged from "Which cleaning product (Clorox, Lysol, vinegar) kills the most bacteria?" (Clorox) to "What foods do cockroaches like the most?" to "What materials (vegetable oil, water, honey) have the greatest refraction index? (honey)" to "How does a fruits' (banana, lemon, apple) pH value affect its electrical conductivity?" (lemon conducts best) to "Which paper towel (Viva, Paperbird, Bounty) is most absorbent?" (Bounty) and many more. Students then created boards explaining their project, including photos of the experiments and the conclusions they drew. During the one-hour fair, students presented their findings to teachers and administrators and were evaluated against a detailed rubric. Students were very enthusiastic about their work and eager to explain it to others. The science fair was a collaborative and engaging way to demonstrate their skills of scientific reasoning. Well done, students!
