A special, all-School Chapel service was held on Tuesday, September 13, in honor of emergency service workers and those who lost their lives during the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Michael Chipowsky, chairman of the Hopewell Valley September 11th and Emergency Services Memorial Committee, was joined by service members who ceremonially carried in a piece of steel from the site of the World Trade Center. Chipowsky asked the adult members of the Pennington community to continue sharing stories from that date with those too young to remember the events, so the memory continues.
Reverend David Hallgren also spoke to the community about grief and the process of working through those emotions. At the end of the service, each grade processed out of the gym past the piece of the tower, giving everyone a moment to reflect. The artifact will be displayed on the Pennington School campus for the remainder of this academic year.
