Class of 2021 alumni share college advice with current seniors

Six students from the class of 2021 returned to campus as a part of the Horizon program to speak with the current seniors about their transition to college. They covered topics ranging from tough roommate situations, how to meet friends, finding the right major, and dealing with homesickness.

A clear thread through the students’ discussion was the strength of Pennington’s program in preparing them for the college experience. Students who lived on campus said they had an easier transition to living with their new roommates. Their free periods in high school helped them learn how to use their free time on campus more effectively, and they felt more comfortable participating in class and reaching out to network and pursue opportunities. Some of the most common advice they gave was to stay organized by creating a schedule and not to be afraid to ask questions, especially when starting out on campus.

This panel was a part of the second week of the Horizon program on campus, which also included Money 101 lessons with Teacher of Economics Holly Jones and numerous wellness activities. Over the next two weeks, seniors will be getting hands-on experience in their areas of interest at off-campus placements and internships.
